Tokyo National Museum

Tokyo National Museum is one of the museum in Japan that located in Ueno park area (13-9 Uenokoen, Taitō, Tokyo 110-8712). We can learn all about the history of Japan there.

The most interesting place (for me) is Archaeology Galery because from this part we can learn about Japan from the beginning. I was amazed when I saw this room because of a lot of thing in there that can tell us a story about Japan.

It starts from the Paleolithic period. In this period I could saw many tools made by the stone that represents how Japanese people live at the beginning. There has a lot of tools that have any shape and size.

I think different shape and scope of the instrument have a different function. For example, the small machine maybe uses for fishing or cut the little plant and the big one use to make a hole in the ground before planting or for a hunt.

In the Yayoi period many tools created by the stone and some made by metal. From the information in the museum, in this period, Japanese people start to use metal for their life tools. Most of the metal tools used for ritual implements, for example, are bronze spears, swords, halberd, and bell-shaped dotaku. In the Yayoi period, metal is a more valuable thing.

Kofun period is the period that metal production is increasing. In this part, I can see anything that made by metal like weapons, armor and other objects. I can imagine how strong the kingdom that exists in this period because of the warrior costume made from metal (bronze or and iron).

The metal not just used for warrior costume but chisel also and I guess in this period they use tools that made by metal for all of their activity. From the information in the museum, at the end of the 5th century in Kofun period they start to make to make weapons, armor, and horse tack which had initially brought from Korea.

In the middle of the 6th century, they begin to make unique metal objects like a large ornamental sword. In the 7th century, they started to use silver and gold for the metal component to make some ornament in weapons. I think the Kofun period is the time where Japan began to grow rapidly because at this time they found a lot of heritage which the shape and the detail of equipment better than before.
